Episode 12: Podcasting Whys and Hows

The magic is all in that laptop.

The magic is all in that laptop.

Today I welcome you to Episode 12 of the Accidental Muralist Podcast, rounding out a full year of monthly conversations.

Why the heck did I even start a podcast? How does it get made? Do I plan to continue? These are the questions I address in this 33.5 minute recording, and my answers might surprise you.

Even if you’ve never considered podcasting, you’ve probably thought about putting your voice out in the world in a more public way: Framing and hanging your drawings. Submitting your article to a magazine. Bringing the music you’ve been practicing in your living room to a neighborhood stage. Or taking it from a small stage to a bigger stage. Regardless of your specific medium and platform, the mental barriers are the same. I describe them explicitly, asking myself the most important questions along the way — namely, Why do I want to do this? and What’s stopping me?

Regarding the Hows, my goal with All Hands Art and the Accidental Muralist Podcast is to demystify art-making and creative living. What does it look like from the inside, the nitty-gritty, the ups and the downs?

In this episode I pull back the curtain on exactly how I make the podcast — what equipment I use (or don’t use), how I line up guests, how I record and upload and publish the episodes, and where exactly they live in cyberspace. It’s not a roadmap to follow, so much as a travel log of where I’ve been. And a “live” wondering about where I’ll go next.

So come on into my studio and let me show you how the proverbial sausage gets made.

As Always...

As always, I love to hear what resonates with you, what questions come up, and what you’d like to hear more about. Will I continue podcasting? The jury is still out. But I’m grateful for the people above who contributed to last year’s endeavor, and to you for listening.

Near the end of today’s episode I mention the juicy new project I’ve inaugurated for 2021, the Possibilities Lab. It’s a place to gather with a small group of souls committed to summoning courage and taking the next step, whatever that might look like for you. One question we’ll consider again and again is the one I leave you with today:

Why not?

With love and limitless possibilities,
- Pam
