Open to Inspiration

With some big projects on my plate (flamenco performance next weekend, working on a book, ongoing teaching, upcoming travel, daughter’s approaching wedding), I recently became obsessed with collage painting. Was it a form of procrastination, or an alternative path for channelling creative inspiration? I don’t know — probably both.

I gave into it any chance I could, which often meant starting by candlelight in the early morning, a practice I wholeheartedly recommend.

Today’s PICTURES show that artwork’s development. Enjoy the spring-y energy. 🐣💫

I didn’t take any photos of the earliest, most awkward stages, which I normally DO like to share.

Is this piece finished? I don’t know. An artist’s comment I read long ago has stuck with me: “A painting is never finished; it just stops in interesting places.”

Another one says, “When Inspiration comes, let it find you working.”

Here’s to the early, awkward stages, as well as the coming-together-but-not-yet-finished parts of ourselves. We are ever-evolving, living, breathing works of art, after all, as long as our hearts are still beating.

Following inspiration where it leads me,
