I painted the original (also 5” x 7”, currently propped near my daughter’s front door) several years ago while I was giving private lessons to an elderly neighbor with Parkinson’s disease. For about 90 minutes each week we’d sit side by side and paint. She’d lost enthusiasm and energy for most tasks, but she did light up with a paintbrush in her hand! That’s the life-giving power of art, and I think it comes through in this little piece.
