Where It All Began: Mosaics

During my “slacking off sabbatical” I’ll be posting a few things from the archives, keeping to the schedule of WORDS on the 3rd, PICTURES on the 13th and SOUND on the 23rd.

This month’s SOUND post is a break from the podcast, and is sourced from my All Hands Art YouTube channel instead. You’ll see me there in long-ish braids. 🤓

Mosaic is the medium that sparked my artistic journey as an adult. In 2000, I purchased a spot in a mosaic workshop through my kids’ school’s silent auction fundraiser. These workshops were popular year after year, but honestly I signed up because I liked Claudia (the instructor), not because I was interested in mosaic.

The experience changed my life’s trajectory. (I write more about that here.)

‘Tis the Season

Spring always gets me in the mood for mosaic. I look forward to outdoor COVID-safe mosaic-making sessions with friends soon. If you need supplies for your own mosaics, I’ve got them.

Whatever creative pursuit floats your boat, I hope you’ll make time for it this week. Art gets us in touch with our SELVES and keeps us connected. That’s where positive worldwide change begins.

Here’s to your innate creativity,
Pam

This is what I made at Claudia’s workshop, using bits of a tourist plate from my birth state. Not the easiest beginner project with all those curves, but sometimes it helps not to know what you’ve got yourself into. 😬
