Happy Hour Mosaics for Beginners

Always wanted to learn how to mosaic? Have a stash of broken tiles and plates in your garage, like almost everyone else I know? ;)

Here's your chance to learn in an informal atmosphere at a bargain price! (This is the first art class I'm offering in Portland, so my introductory fee is just $20 to cover materials costs.)

Everything you'll need to make a mosaic plaque for your garden or entryway is included. (Feel free to bring your own treasured bits, however.) You'll learn how to mix tile adhesive, how to create simple designs that will "read" well in tile, and how to apply the small pieces to your base. There will also be an option to make a one-step piece that will not need to be grouted later on. (Don't worry if this doesn't make sense right now. I'll explain everything.)

Because it's happy hour, feel free to bring a beverage or munchies to add to our supply. After we've made our mosaics, all of Alberta Street's dinner options are right around the corner. Why not make an evening out of it?

Cracked Pots Reuse Art Show

I'm thrilled to be a first-timer at this esteemed event, held annually at the whimsical and ever-inspiring McMenamin's Edgefield grounds out in Troutdale, OR.

Rules for the Cracked Pots art show and sale state that each piece must be made of at least 80% reclaimed/salvaged/reused/recycled materials. The event is intended to support waste reduction as much as it is to enchant visitors with original artwork.

Be sure to allow time to explore the hotel and pubs. My favorite thing about Edgefield is the faces painted on C-joints in the pipes along the hallway ceilings. Just look up and you'll see what I'm talking about. ;)

Art at the Bank??

That's right! For the month of September, All Hands Art will be the featured small business at Umpqua Bank's Alberta Street store.

Design matters, and where you put your money matters. I was attracted to Umpqua Bank not only because its branch offices are beautiful and welcoming, but because they support the local community. And businesses like mine. (Ok, and because it's six blocks from my house!)

I'll have a selection of greeting cards, small artworks, and a found object sculpture or two, on display and available for purchase right in the bank's lobby, during September. Because, why not??

Art at the Pub

Hey folks, I bet your walls could use a new splash of color. Or maybe you're in the market for a Father's Day or graduation gift?

I've got 28 artworks on display at this fun neighborhood watering hole, now through May 30, 2018. Styles range from simple poem-like thoughts typed on vintage paper, to large collage paintings, to whimsical found-object sculptures.

All are for sale—just pay the bartender and take the artwork home with you! There's something for every price range: $35 for the smallest paint-chip paintings, to $1200 for the largest canvas.

Enjoy sips and snacks while you're at the pub, and thank them for supporting local artists!
